Why I Collect Original Vintage Movie Posters
People often ask me how I got started as a vintage movie poster collector. It was over 25 years ago while in the Navy that I attended a local auction with several original vintage movie posters. I was amazed at the beauty of some of these classic Hollywood treasures. The first poster I bought was an “Abbott & Costello Meet Dr Jekyl & Mr Hyde” one sheet from 1953. The artwork was just magnificent. I would soon learned that this rare ephemera was not only an exciting collecting hobby , but also a great investment. Many movie posters I collected appreciated 50% after just a few years.
Vintage movie posters can take you back to the golden days of movies. Suddenly you’re in the vestibule of an old theater… Smell the fresh popcorn – not the kind that comes already popped in giant plastic bags, like you get now…
There is a large niche market for original movie posters in the country today. Especially in these trying times, wouldn’t you like to take a walk on memory lane, back to the days of the silver screen, by displaying authentic movie memorabilia in your office or home?
Imagine your walls tastefully decorated with real vintage movie posters: You could spend your quiet evenings with friends while enjoying posters featuring Clark Gable, Vivien Leigh and others from the golden era of films. Or perhaps you’d prefer Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, dancing gracefully across the walls of your office.

Vintage $20.78 These are the earliest-known recordings of Canned Heat with the primordial lineup of Alan “Blind Owl” Wilson (guitar/harmonica/vocals), Stuart Brotman (bass), Henry “Sunflower” Vestine (guitar), Bob “The Bear” Hite (vocals), and either Keith Sawyer (drums), or perhaps his replacement, Frank Cook (drums), who joined circa 1966. Another notable name among the personnel listed on the original LP jacket is rhythm & blues legend, Johnny Otis as producer. This is certainly fitting, as the Heat wind their way through compact, high-energy versions of a variety of selections, directly contrasting the longer psychedelic showcases that would evolve over the next few years. Their almost cerebral respect for their predecessors would have suggested that the band hailed from anywhere other than their Topanga Canyon digs. However, Wilson, Vestine, and Hite were consummate students of authentic R&B, as evidenced by their practically note-for-note transcriptions of tunes from Chicago icons such as Muddy Waters (“Got My Mojo Working”), Willie Dixon (“Spoonful” and “Pretty Thing”), John Lee Hooker (“Louise” and “Dimples”), and Elmore James (“Rollin’ and Tumblin’.”) The latter cut is actually presented in two distinct renderings — with and without Wilson’s hard-hitting harmonica leads, closely resembling the sound of their self-titled debut, Canned Heat (1967) from the following year. A second holdover is “Big Road Blues,” which is also given a similar driving beat and an otherwise solid reading.
